History Speaks at the Woodson History Center: Advances in the Treatment of Heart Disease Since 1970 Little could be done for heart patients until the 1970s. Now? Dr. Rick Engelmeier will discuss the greatly expanded medical knowledge when the Marathon County Historical Society presents “Advances in the Treatment of Heart Disease Since 1970,” another topic in our History Speaks series, at 2 pm Sunday, March 25, 2018, at the Woodson History Center, 410 McIndoe St., Wausau. Research has uncovered significant knowledge about the heart and heart disease in the past four decades. Treating heart disease now includes lifestyle changes, surgical techniques, medications, and cardiac catheterization procedures. All this has greatly improved outcomes for these patients. Dr. Rick Engelmeier is a cardiologist in Wausau. There is no admission fee; however, donations are appreciated. Registration is not required. The Historical Society is grateful to Janke Book Store and to Compass Properties for their sponsorship of the History Speaks series. Visitors might also enjoy a guided tour of the Yawkey House Museum, or visiting our free exhibit spaces. Rural Electrification: Outlet for Change depicts life before and after electricity made its slow way into rural areas of Marathon County in the 1930s and ‘40s.
