Making a Mark on Wausau: Celebrating the Life of Caroline Mark

The name, Caroline S. Mark, is exhibited in several locations around the Wausau area, including the Wausau Conservatory of Music, the Boys & Girls Club, and the Center for the Visual Arts. But who was she and why is her name displayed so proudly? The public is invited to an event to honor Caroline Mark’s legacy. On September 30, 2018, just three days after the 100th anniversary of her birth, the Wausau Conservatory of Music and the Marathon County Historical Society will present “Making a Mark on Wausau.” The afternoon will begin with storytelling from 2 pm to 3:30 pm by a costumed re-enactor near Caroline’s mausoleum at Pine Grove Cemetery, along Grand Avenue in Wausau. The day’s events will continue at the Wausau Conservatory of Music, 404 Seymour St., for a Faculty Artist Gala at 4 pm, followed by a birthday cake reception. Performing artists scheduled include Ann Applegate, Dr. Lily Brissman, Bette Close, Dr. Judith Durocher Sidlowski, Michael Fischer, John Greiner, Kirsten Hornby, Ann Johnson, Patrick Langer, Barbara Lattimer, Kathleen Paramore, Rochelle Pearson, Dr. Jacob Roseman and Angela Sedrak, all teaching faculty at the Conservatory. In addition to honoring Caroline Mark, this event will encourage people to think about their own generosity. Caroline left her mark on Wausau by supporting youth and the arts. Whether a person has money to donate or time and elbow grease to commit, there are many great causes to support that all work together to make Marathon County a great place to live! There is no admission fee for either the cemetery stories or for the concert and reception, however donations are appreciated. Advance registration is not required.
